Meraki Licenses

Meraki Device Licensing Types

The MR and MV devices only have one license type, a general device type license. This license can apply to any device of that specific type (EX: MR, MV), so long as there is one license for every device in the account. For example, a network containing 1x MR57 and 1x MR56 will require licensing for 2x APs.

The MX and MS devices have licenses on a per-model basis, so every MX and MS model has a corresponding license. Please note that these licenses are nontransferrable between appliance models. For example, an MS355-24 will not be covered by an MS355-48 license; it will require an MS355-24 license.

MX Appliance Licensing

The MX line has three tiers: Enterprise, Advanced Security, OR Secure SD-WAN PLUS

MS Licensing

The MS line has two tiers: Enterprise OR Advanced. The Advanced Licenses are only available for the MS390. 8

MS Licensing

Meraki Wireless devices can be licensed in a few different ways. It line has three license types: Enterprise, Advanced, and Upgrade Licenses.

MR Enterprise +MR Upgrade = MR Advanced

The MR Enterprise license is the standard license and covers everything but Umbrella capabilities. That is where the Advanced and Upgrade Licenses come in.

The MR Upgrade license is considered an add-on license and enables Umbrella functionality and Adaptive Policies only. It can only be assigned to MR access points with an active device (Enterprise) license. This license is generally purchased for MR access points that already have a basic enterprise license.

The MR Advanced license includes a device (Enterprise) license for an MR access point itself in addition to the Umbrella/Adaptive Policy add-on license which enables Umbrella and Adaptive Policy functionalities on that access point. This license is generally purchased for licensing a new MR access point that does not already have a license.

MS Licensing

• 1:1 license to hardware model LIC-MV-(1, 3, 5, or 7 Year)
• 16 models, but only one license SKU
• 5 year warranty on all new models

Sophos Firewall OS (SFOS) licensing model

SFOS includes a base license, which is required for all hardware and virtual firewalls. You can also purchase additional features as subscriptions. You can purchase these subscriptions individually or as bundles. Some bundles include hardware or virtual appliances, and other bundles contain subscriptions only.
